No accounts. No cookies. No cross-site tracking. No ads. No data sold or shared.

What we measure

To understand which stories and editions are useful and to keep the service running, we keep a small amount of first-party, aggregate usage data — never tied to a named person:

• The page or story viewed, the edition/language, and coarse referrer host (e.g. that you arrived from a search engine).
• An approximate country (from your network), and device type (mobile / tablet / desktop).
• A salted one-way hash of your IP address + browser string, used only to count unique visits. The salt is random and rotates, so the hash cannot be reversed to your IP and cannot follow you across time or sites.

We do not store your raw IP address, your name, email, or any account identifier — there are no accounts.

How long we keep it

Aggregate analytics events are automatically deleted after 90 days. There is no long-term profile of you.

Legal basis

For readers in the EU/EEA and UK, this minimal, cookieless, aggregate measurement is processed under legitimate interest (operating and improving a free service) — it does not identify you and involves no cookies requiring consent. We honour your browser's Do-Not-Track / Global Privacy Control signal by not recording the pseudonymous visit hash.

What leaves your browser

• Your reading preferences (edition, language, layout) are stored locally in your browser and never sent to us.
• When you open an outlet's article, you go directly to that outlet — their own privacy policy then applies.
• Sharing a story uses your device's native share sheet; we don't see what you share.
